Sean Hinton founded Terbish Partners in 2007 to provide strategic and investment advisory. His recent focus is on cross-border transactions and IPO’s in the energy and minerals sector in China, Mongolia and Africa, and in recent years he has advised on transactions of more than US$11 billion. He is a long-term senior advisor to Goldman Sachs (Asia) and the Rio Tinto group. Other recent roles include: Special Advisor to the CEO of SOHO China; and Chairman of China Networks Ltd. Sean has more than 22 years of experience in China and Mongolia particularly, where he first lived from 1988-1995, and subsequently served Mongolia’s Honorary Consul-General in Australia.
Sean was a partner and principal at Media Entertainment Advisors, a boutique investment bank in London, where he advised private investors and corporate clients including major public broadcasters, distributors and banks. He sat on the investment committee of the Creative Capital Fund, a London-based start-up venture capital fund, and on the board of advisors of a number of online start-up companies. From 2000 – 2005 he was Managing Director of Ealing Studios and Fragile Films, the oldest film studio in the world and one of the UK’s largest film production companies. Sean oversaw the operation of all the businesses from facilities to production, focussing on strategy and business development.
Sean worked with McKinsey & Company for 5 years from 1995, working in the Sydney and London offices, where he advised major clients on a wide range of strategic issues, specialising on helping companies deal with growth challenges. He also worked extensively as a specialist in the Media and Entertainment practice working in online and offline media. Before McKinsey he was founder and CEO of the adventure travel and trekking operator, Nomads Expeditions, which he sold in 1995.

Sean studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (A.G.S.M.), the University of Cambridge (M.Phil. Ethnomusicology) and the MIT Sloan School of Management (Sloan Visiting Fellow). He is a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute, USA, and was a founding member of the national Baha’i council of Mongolia. He currently lives in Beijing with his wife and three daughters.
